Sherica G.
“I never thought it would be possible for me to be a homeowner on my salary.”
For the past eight years, Sherica and her 14-year-old son Kingston have lived in a two-bedroom space they've outgrown in more ways than one. Though small, it has been their home base while Sherica has poured her energy into creating the best possible life for Kingston.
A proud Columbia, Tennessee native, Sherica moved to Franklin in pursuit of better educational opportunities for her son. Kingston, who was diagnosed with ADHD in 2020, thrives in smaller classroom settings. Sherica has made countless sacrifices—enrolling him in private schools, working from home, and putting his needs above her own every step of the way. When a traumatic classroom experience caused Kingston to withdraw from school, Sherica stepped in, choosing to homeschool him so he could heal and continue to learn in a safe, nurturing environment.
She dreams of a home where Kingston can have his own dedicated learning space, a driveway for a basketball hoop, and a backyard where he can ride bikes and she can grow her vegetables.
Sherica's roots run deep in Middle Tennessee. She graduated from Spring Hill High School, studied at Columbia State Community College, and earned her cosmetology license from Tennessee Career Institute. Her parents instilled in her the value of hard work and community, values Sherica carries out through her service, her work, and her deep involvement in her church community.
Sherica dreams not just of owning a home, but of using that stability as a launching pad for even greater things. For her, homeownership means peace of mind, room to gather with family during the holidays, and the chance to continue building a legacy rooted in faith, sacrifice, and purpose.
To the sponsors and volunteers who make the Habitat mission possible, Sherica offers heartfelt thanks: “Community is something the world needs more of. Your contributions and time are changing the world.”
